The insurance claim process, explained step by step

Filing a roof claim is confusing—so we made it simple. Here’s exactly how the process works, and how TRC handles the heavy lifting for you.

Insurance Claim Process

Eight steps from damage to done

01

Property Damage Assessment

TRC completes a thorough inspection to identify and document all claimable damage—roof, gutters, windows, siding, fencing, screens, garage doors, paint, and stain. All of these are susceptible to hail and wind damage.
02

File a Claim

You file a claim with your insurance company, who schedules a field adjuster—usually calling within 72 hours. TRC will meet your adjuster on-site. Before you call, write down: the exact date and time of the storm, whether you have any interior leaks or damage, and your claim number and adjuster’s number.
03

Claims Adjustment

On adjustment day, a TRC representative meets the adjuster or third-party appraiser on-site and physically inspects the roof and exterior with them. We compare our scope to theirs to ensure they align—so no damage is missed and the process moves faster. Before the adjuster leaves, verify your correct mortgage company is on file and confirm your deductible.
04

Estimate

The adjuster writes their estimate—sometimes on-site, but usually offsite—then sends it directly to you by email or mail, along with the first check.
05

Review

Once you have the estimate and first check, contact TRC to review it line-by-line. Carrier estimating software is updated monthly and reflects the average local pricing to return your home to pre-loss condition. If the check lists your mortgage company as an endorsee, contact them to learn their endorsement process—every mortgage company is different.
06

Agreement

A TRC representative and the homeowner sign the agreement. TRC works directly off the insurance company’s scope, estimate, and pricing—so there’s no need to collect three estimates. Please note: it is against Texas law for a homeowner to profit from an insurance claim; insurance only owes what it costs to return you to pre-loss condition.
07

Job Completion

We schedule the work, order materials, and complete the project—roofs first, other trades after. During construction we document any unforeseen damage (supplements) and take before-and-after photos, all available in your customer portal. No money is ever collected before the roof is complete; the first (ACV) payment is due once the roof is finished.
08

Certificate of Completion

TRC submits a certificate of completion, photos, and any supplements to your insurance company to release the final payment (the recoverable depreciation). Final payment is sent to you; a TRC representative collects it only after all trades are complete—and we won’t accept it until you’re 100% satisfied.

You’re not alone in this

From first inspection to final depreciation check, TRC guides you through every step and meets your adjuster in person. When damage is covered, many homeowners pay only their deductible.
